Prospective New Owners

So we have put an offer in on this boat and are awaiting survey and sea trials. This group was one of the reasons why I came around to thinking long and hard and eventually offering on a M38. Was hoping maybe someone knew something about the boat. Thanks so much for all your time, wisdom and humor.

Also a prospective new owner here on the Chesapeake Bay of a 384. We are trying to get to acceptance and closing this week and having this forum has been very helpful in learning about the boat and things to consider. I am looking forward to continuing to learn from and contributing to this group in the future.

I think if you could make an offer below $28,500 for a Morgan 382 you are either getting one hell of a deal or you’re walking into a bunch of serious problems.

Welcome to the forum Krandon and JNiemczuk! Good luck with the potential purchases. JNiemczuk, we live in Oregon (with our spoiled M384), but are out on the Chesapeake visiting our folks (Annapolis). The humidity & heat almost killed me last week. I don’t know how you guys do it … I had to work outside for part of the day and was totally drenched with sweat. It’s not so bad so far this week, thank god.

Cheers,
Mark

Holy smokes. I paid $15,535 for my '78 382 in 2011. Of course she didn't even have steering but she came complete with the original horse hair cushions!

I am very ready to get back to the West Coast. Not withstanding the current state of weather in California(I might opt to settle further north in Washington), it is much more pleasant and consistent sailing.

You probably know this already, Warren, but most folks choose to go from Panama to Hawaii and skirt across the top of the Pacific High to get to the Pacific Northwest. Rather than bashing up the coast, often against current.

That might be a nice little pirouette after you finish your circumnavigation. ;)

Yeah, I go back and forth on which way to go. I do really want to Cruise Mexico, since I didn't get to when I left. Most boats leaving the west coast cruise Mexico on their way to FP. However, the Pacific Cup took me to Hawaii first. If I don't hurry, I think that working up the coast won't be _too_ bad. Staying in each port 1-3 weeks until there is a window I can sail another few hundred miles. Or, I can tack 500 miles off shore. It seems to be a 50/50 split what way people go. Certainly to the PNW, Hawaii is the way to go. But for California its a toss up. Hundreds of boats cruise to Cabo and back every November, and the do not go to Hawaii on the way back.

Congratulations on a great boat for a great price! I see you are in Kemah, TX. Is that where the boat is headed?
