Port Settee Berth

Hi Everyone!

I just bought a 384 that has been off the water for nearly a decade(...a shame). As I was going through the port settee, I noticed that there are supports for a board to make the settee into a double berth. Is this hidden somewhere on board? There is a chance it is missing altogether but I know some designers liked to keep things tucked away for aesthetics and can really hide them well in the interior.

Thanks!

The cushion that is the backrest that butts up against the galley should have a 3/4" plywood back sewn into it. That plywood should be just long enough to fit between the cleats to make up the double berth. Hopefully your boat still has that cushion. If not, it should be fairly easy to make.

Mine just has a board that I keep under one of the seat cushions. I believe some boats have the board incorporated into one of the seat back cushions that you would put there

Congratulations on your new boat! The original seat cushion on my M382 has the board inside the cushion. I don't recall if the covers are zippered... if so, you could just get some marine plywood cut to size and install it that way. If you plan to sleep there, you might look into getting the Froli sleep system. It turns a cushion into a mattress! Of course, if it has the wood on there, it won't work as it would on a regular bunk... so maybe just get some wood for the gap and use a regular cushion with the Froli system. A Captain friend told me about it and I'm really much more comfortable with the system than before I got the system. It happens to be on sale now.
