A friend of mine recently purchased a Catalina 42 from a guy from a Yacht Club in Braintree, MA. Towards the end of April the boat is going to be launched and a sea trial needs to be conducted. The final sale is going to be based on the sea trial. My friend, Mark, needs a mechanic to go over the engine and mechanical stuff at the trial. Would you know and recommend someone in your area would could help? If so, call me at 516-459-3008.

Any luck with selling "Delight"?

Jim

Hi Jim,

I used to use these guys:

Cohasset Diesel & Gas Repair

20 Crocker Ln, Cohasset, MA 02025

(781) 383-9380

The principal Steve Ward passed away but his coworker was continuing on and was very competent. I dont know what current status is.

I have taken a deposit on Delight. Not the easiest thing to sell a 40 year old 38' sailboat. But I had a lot of interest, got my bottom line, and she is going to a good home. In prepping for and describing her during the sale process when showing her i realized even more what a great boat she is. Solid as hell, comfortable, great sailing, safe, nice looking, etc. etc. and will outlast current boats. If the power boat thing doesn't cure my sailing itch who knows what the future will bring....

Hope you and Bonnie are well. Get the snow off that boat and get her in the water!

Best,

Peter

Thanks for the lead. Mark is calling as we write. After he seals the deal, we'll be heading south with the boat down to Keyport NJ. Our plan is to stop at Scituate as the first stop. I'll let you know how tall goes.

Bonnie and I are going to do a lot of local sailing this summer. Maybe a trip out to Block Island and Newport. What are your plans with the trawler?

Jim

Hey Jim, Give a shout when you are headed this way so I can let club know if you need a guest mooring. No plans on the new ride, need to finalize the deal(s) and get her up this way from out on LI. Hopefully spring gets here and no more winter storms! Peter

I just arrived home from Braintree where we were working on Mark's Catalina 42. We tried your Cohasset Diesel & Gas. A woman told us they recently moved, her mechanic has a broken leg, so she wouldn't be able to help us. She gave us a lead to Scituate Boat Yard. There we got a couple of more leads of local mechanics. Thanks for the tip. We'll probably use the yard manager at the Metropolitan Yacht Club where the boat is stored.
We'll be heading south from Braintree around the first week in May. The first stop will be Scituate. I'll let you know the details.
Where on Long Island is the new boat you are looking to buy? Can I be of any service to you on this end? We are in Floral Park, which is on the western end of the Island. Let me know.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Sounds good on the catalina and trip south. The boat we are getting is in Southold. I have your number so will call or text as we have more definitive plans.

Peter

Pete
Southhold is at the other end of the Island from us. But if you need any help, just ask.

Jim

Jim, If you could prep and paint the bottom and wax the hull that would be most appreciated. Let me know when it is ready for me to come down and take it away!;)

My friend Mark and I will be moving his boat from Braintree to Keyport, NJ around the beginning of May. Do you know if the fuel dock in Scituate would be open by then? I'm thinking it would be with all the local fishing boats coming and going.

Jim

I would be surprised if the fuel dock wasn't open but will find out for sure before you guys make your trip.
