Hi y'all ... those newsletters are also embedded into this site.
It's the same 7 that Steve found - I haven't seen any others ... if anyone has them, please pass them along.

You can see them on here by typing "Morgan Owner's Newsletter" in the Search box.

Plus, one more from Lenny Reich about modifying a 382 rudder to be like a 383/384 rudder.

http://personal.colby.edu/personal/l/lsreich/rudder.html

This is similar to a modification Jeff Lovett made to Pilgrim's rudder.
Thank you so much for posting this Steve! Do you know...image.jpeg Was it Lenny that started the rudder mod? Or did it come from someone else earlier on?
This is our rudder modified. Still doesn't back to starboard worth a darn! or is it port?!:)

John, no I don't know if Lenny used a predated rudder modification or if he started it all.
In either case, I would imagine that a modification like his is pretty much all custom work.

Did you modify your OEM 382 rudder, or is your rudder a Foss Foam 383/384 rudder?

It was fine when we purchased the boat. The PO said it was done by a "professional" who knew about the correct modifications. I will contact the original owner though and ask...good question...who actually did it and when. It might be that when Morgan decided to modify the rudder for the 383 that started others doing ton their 382...I wonder? I read about Brewers designs having some issues with weather helm. On such design was the Jason 35. The mast placement was off by nearly 1 1/2 feet aft and needed to be moved forward to correct it!

John, It was also why Morgan raised the mast, and shortened the boom. More sail forward, larger fore triangle from higher mast, and less area aft, ie shorter boom. The boom is also higher by about a one and 1/2 feet on the 383/384.

I wonder how they arrived at the 138 PHRF over the 144 of the 382. There is a lot of confusion on the PHRF "real" numbers. Alan Shedd is probably most notable "expert" having been involved in racing.
Thanks again for those newsletters.
