lee nicholas
I'm in need of information on a re do of my 384 frig box,. I'm in fla and pan a trip to the bahamas next year.
Weather i need a new holding plate , compressor or more insulation inside the box. Lee

Lee,
Somewhere in the archives i found a post about insulating the existing box with expanding foam. I drilled 1/4" holes every 6" top to bottom and side to side on all walls except the bottom. I used about 5 or 6 cans of foam and filled it in one hole until it oozed out of the next. Then I would go to the next empty hole and repeat. It was a very messy job and I had no idea how hard it was to get expanding foam out of your hair. It seems to work fine. I filled each of the holes in the fiberglass with plastic plugs

For the bottom, I covered with a piece of plexiglass making the bottom level then sprayed foam under the plexi.

Tom , I have found the plastic plugs on Master-Carr.com This looks like it sure worth a try . Thank you so much . I'll remember to wear some sort of bath hat . A woman bathing hat would be perfect , no idea if they still use those ? !!
Goggles and bathing hat , I'll be quite the site !!! LOL

Tom , Did you put the plastic plugs as you foamed or wait for it all to dry. I would guess silicone hods the plugs in and Whether proofs them ?

I think I put a dab of silicone or E-6000 glue on each of them. It's been several years since I did it so I don't remember all the details. A swimming cap would work. Just stay in the boat with it on lol.

I'm thinking of drilling all the holes and see if the existing insulation is wet . I'm told it should be by my AC guy. Maybe a light or heater in the box for a week or so will help to dry it out ??
What do you guys think ?

i'm doing a trip to harbor fright today to see what they have in a small right angle drill to drill the box in tight places. A drill and tap set also I have some track i need to mount on the boom for a sliding block for my reef system. Its 1 1/4 track so i want to mount it solid ! Just window shopping ! oh yeah , I always come home with have to stuff. Its not quality at all, but for one time projects it will do the trick.!
