monitor Windvane vs hydrovane

Good day all,

I'm aware Warren has used the monitor vane for a while and he seemed to say over time it had damaged his rudder and would go for the hydrovane if he had to do it over again.

Has anyone trialed the hydrovane on our Morgan's? I'd like to know how well it does on our boats.

I just ordered a new Hydrovane but it isn't installed on the boat yet. Once it's installed and I'm able to take the boat out for a trial run I'll definitely reply back and give my thoughts on how it performs.

Hydrovane was great to work with! Very attentive and quick to reply to my emails and answer all of my questions. I'm looking forward to returning to the boat and having the Hydrovane installed.

Warren's rudder was not damaged. The Monitor's side-pull on the wheel can cause wear on the aluminum of the Edson pedestal. Edson makes a larger pedestal that has stainless bearing liners to deal with this issue. Warren retrofitted his older pedestal with stainless liners. I am contemplating the same fix, unless I decide to buy a new pedestal.
