Marinas/Boatyards near Pascagoula, MS

Hello all!
I will be relocating to the Pascagoula area this summer and am looking for leads on Marinas, Boatyards, and Hurricane holes in the area. Any info you all could share would be greatly appreciated.
thank you,
Barry

I am in Gulfport and partial to Bay Marine in Biloxi. Good people. In Pascagoula, you have Pitalos Boat yard and they have lifting services but it is in the back bay and hard to get to and take a day's motoring in the marshes. There is a municipal marina there with a few slips. Ocean Springs is hard to get into because of a waiting list. Open slips in Gulfport at this time. Hurricane holes is another subject that people hold as secret almost. Glad to help but I am not familiar with holes in Jackson County.

Thank you for the info John. I’ll look into those.
well if you have any hurricane holes you don’t mind sharing I would greatly appreciate. Trying to gather as much info as I can prior to moving to keep my options open.

Having run 5 times just this past 2020 hurricane season into a hurricane holes, we are always looking for a better hole and ways to tie up from the surges that occur. We were lucky in the Mississippi Gulfcoast except for Zeta in late October, the last one our Harbor declared a mandatory evacuation for. I was in the harbor only 3 days and had to go again for that one. I have gone to several locations but for me, the best is in Discovery Bay connected to the Bay of Bay St Louis. That would be a long ride for you in Jackson County and I am sure you could find a better location that is closer by asking around the Municipal harbor in Pascagoula. In Zeta, I went into Discovery Bay but had to tie up to old pilings which did hold, but I was late getting there and was exposed more than I wanted and catching the wind from the east, nearly pulled my aft port cleat out of the boat. I have some repair work to do but considering that there were 40 ft Catalinas next to me pulling up their pilings with their lines and washing ashore with Zeta's 115 sustained winds and 14 ft surge, I was lucky. You cannot underestimate these storms. The rule is not waiting for the mandatory evacuation order but go when you know you need to. Go early and get the best spot you can. There are railroad and several bridge openings that are involved with each run so it takes time to get there. Leaving late in inclement weather is a bad start to get to your location. I did go into the yard on one of the storms last year (about a $400 experience) but there are risks there too as boats can turn over off their stands or lose their gennys from the wind. Happy to help in any way but I would speak to those guys at the Pasc. Municipal Harbor. I have met several of them and they are old salts and can share with you where they recommend.

Thanks again for the great input John. I really appreciate it. Since I won’t be arriving until just before the beginning of hurricane season I am now thinking I will try to find a decent yard to have it hauled out. Of course understanding the risks involved there as well. But that may be my best option until I am able to explore the area and talk with the locals to find some hurricane holes. Plus that will give me some time to tackle some projects while on the hard. Fingers crossed for a mild storm season!!

In Biloxi there are two excellent yards. I mentioned Bay Marine my favorite and also there is Rebel Boat Yard. Pitalo's in Pascagoula and in Pass Christian, there is Pass Christian Yacht Works. I been in all four one time or another. Let me know if you need to call me my cell is 228*229*6640. Quest is in Gulfport Harbor so I am in the middle of all three of the yards so I have experienced them. All good and some are more expensive than the others.
