M-38 in Fernandina Beach?

Any forum members have the Morgan on the hard at Tiger Point Marine on Amelia Islad / Fernandina Beach? Saw it there yesterday.

Hi Rich - good to know you!
My wife and I have a house on Amelia Island. Our M-383 is up north on Lake Ontario. I think its our summer cottage. (we're transitioning)
Everyone I speak with who sails here says I should bring the boat down. What do you think? Where do you sail to out of JAX
Dave

Hello Dave,
Well, it's a long story, but the main crux is that the boat took a lightning hit last July, and I have a lot of work to do on her. I had just finished up enough to send the sails out for repairs, and after their return, do some more extensive sailing over the summer and into Fall. Unfortunately other items of great importance to the house called at about the same time, and the boat has been in storage since September. We had only owned it a year, working on upgrades, but now she won't get attention until probably September or something. Sorry that I can't help you much as far as sailing in the area. We had only sailed within a few miles of GCSM on the river, with the work on the boat in progress. This is our first boat to own, since we had always sailed others' boats, or crewed with them. We live here in Jacksonville now, from 21 years in Minnesota. We are planning to sail her up to Maine and back during the year - at least once, then do the Bahamas in the winter from here.

Not to intrude but, I live and keep our Morgan 382 here in Jax. Have been sailing these waters for about 7-8 years now on sail and motored a lot here before that. I'm in the Ortega river.

Chris,
(also not to intrude, but) where do you keep your boat?

I'm currently in Houston, but, like Rick, I keep my Morgan 382 in Green Cove Springs.
Before that, I lived in Jacksonville (Ortega/Confederate Point, Arlington, JAX Beach) for about 12 years.

Greetings! How long have you owned the 382? Are you living aboard, or do you have a house here too?
Rick

Seems like there's a few of us in the JAX area. I'm personally transitioning from work to retirement, from north to south, ect. So premature as this may be....
We should all get together (on the water?) some time soon!
Dave

Steve, our boat stays at the Ortega River Marina (formerly Ortega Yacht Club Marina) on the Ortega River.

Richard, I've owned SlowDance now for about 4 years. It was previously owned by Tony Carey up in Annapolis. We do not live aboard. We have a house, and live about 5 minutes from the marina.

Dave, I'm all for it!! I just took the boat to Miami last week. We're going back this weekend and headed either to the Keys or the Exumas for a couple weeks. Depending on weather. We should be back by June, so anytime after that, I'm all for it. My plan is to go have some fun this year with the Epping Forrest beer can races on Wednesdays.

Like Chris, I too am transitioning from work to retirement (over the next 3-4 years, hopefully), at which point I plan to have finished refitting Arrrgh-O and cruise the Caribbean and surrounding waters.

I'm only in Green Cove Springs for a couple weeks each year, usually around Labor Day (sometimes over Christmas).
I hope to catch up to you guys sometime, but no hurries.

It sounds as if we four have some things in common. We moved to Jax in late 2011, and bought Xanadu in 2012. Retirement (for me, at least, as my wife still has a job) has given me more work than I had planned on. Xanadu (we nicknamed her "Madame X, woman of many secrets") always seemed to have a surprise for me, and the house is, well, a house. I have a hobby auto that also needs attention, and had to build a new shop to finish that some day. So not much time to get to the boat recently. I'll have to continue storage until probably September. It would be great to meet you guys and do some sailing together in the future.
Best,
Rick

Richard, I looked at a very nice 382 in Green Cove Springs back in 2012 but I was wanting to start out over on the Gulf Coast so I bought a 383 that was over there already... so saved on the transport cost... After researching Morgans, I couldn't find a viable alternative in the 38' range given the quality of construction, interior space/storage, salability, etc. ... at least no boats that were built in the numbers that these were. We really enjoy our boat and I can see keeping it for many many years. I live down in Eustis but have family in Jax and sail out of Clearwater.... would love to get a Florida Morgan group together/gathering!! I'm sure I could twist the arm of Lee Nicholas and get him to come along. He's a wealth of knowledge on sailboats and Morgans too....

A Florida Morgan group sounds awesome! There's a few other Morgan's around as well. The guy that owns the other Marina in Green Cove (Holland Marine) also has a 382. It's pretty tricked out. The Marina I'm at will soon have a gazebo, fire pit, outdoor kitchen etc. Let's keep in touch and at least for the Jax guys, we'll try to get together, meet and maybe sail or sit back with a cool drink!

Oh yeah, sounds good! Yes we can stay in touch easily now with this improved site! I've had a good look at Tom Holland's boat. Like you said she is tricked out. I like his bimini bracing, and will probably copy some of that. Mine is just waiting for a good blow to sail off on its own. He has some nice hand holds integrated into the upper sides of the windshield framing. Also the SS portlights look great.

Chris I'm headed for the Exumas in April , Tell me how your trip went !
I agree Morgan owners of Florida , Has a nice ring to it !!!!
