Looking for Morgan 382 boat graphics

Hello All,
I am looking to print boat cards and would like to find a good graphic of the Morgan 382 to put on the card. I suppose I could learn how to clean up the line drawing from the original boat info, but I am hoping someone has done something amazing they are willing to share! Anyone have something?

Hi there Calley - I scanned and cleaned up the old line drawing in Adobe Illustrator.
I'm attaching a PDF file of what I came up with. It's got a black background because it's what I used for the mugs. I hope it helps.
Cheers,
-Mark

Hi John. Ha!
I could do that, but the upgrade will cost you $1,500. I'm sure it will be worth it, though!
Cheers,

Mark, I think this is a 6' draft, like Adavida, not the standard 5' draft. Maybe it is an illusion. Also, the sail plan is for the 384, not the 382.

Hi Terry - interesting observations. I can't remember which drawings I traced, but maybe it was the 6' draft. Although it would be a little surprising since I didn't know I had any drawings of that modification.

I do remember that it had the traveller in the cockpit, which I "left out" to make it a more "ambiguous" for us 383 and 384 people. What about the sail plan looks like 384?

My disclaimer is that I was just doing this for logo-sized art, and not intended to be detailed.

Thanks Jim!

Cheers all,
-Mark

I did not mean to seem critical or mean-spirited. Just commenting. The boom is shorter than a 382, but I don't know exactly where the 384 boom ends, of course. The very bottom cord of the fin appears to be shorter than the original Brewer drawings; that drew my attention.

Thanks, Terry, I didn't take it like that.

I found the drawing that I sketched it from (see below). It's from a Morgan 38 brochure. Note traveller on coach top, implying a 383/4. I agree that the keel and rudder depths make it look like a 6ft draft, but the specs on the sheet say 5ft. The brochure says the Main sail area is 25.6 sq meters, and North Sails says my (384) has an area of 37.1 sq meters. So I'm not sure exactly what it is. It does seem like the boom would be longer if it was a real 382.

The brochure also says the "bulkheads and cabinetry are secured with fiberglass". I think those with tabbing problems on our forum might beg to differ. ;). What?! Salespeople stretched the truth even 40+ years ago?!

Traveler on coach top should imply 383/4, no? Having now looked at Mark's (excellent) recreation of this image many times up close on a variety of media, I agree that it looks to me more like the taller rig/shorter boom of the later models when I compare it to looking at my own 382. We measured our mast height at 53' including VHF antenna, or about 50-51 without. Didn't they add about 2 feet of height to the 383/4?

Anyway no complaints from me either, just down in the weeds as usual like the rest of you :D

I think the original artist used a bit of artistic license on the drawing. Not a bad thing. But those of us with a little bit more intimate knowledge of the boats may beg to differ. Who cares! It looks good on paper and in the water.

Oops. Lack of sleep? Typing too fast? I flipped those around, and yes Keefer, coach top traveller implies 383/4. Douh! I'm going to edit my past post to remove embarrassing error. Please don't tell Zia.

And yes, the mast height might be right for 383/4 too. We use 57ft as our height but that includes 3ft for antenna, masthead fly and a little factor of safety.

Here are some images (redacted, lol) of boat calling cards I've had made.

I've had Vistaprint do them as well as my business card these days. Unfortunately there are no local printers left in our area. But while it's an impersonal experience, Vistaprint did fine.

The card I had made for Ebony, the Moore 24, has a line drawing on the reverse side. I couldn't capture a good enough image to use for our Morgan. I tried with some drawings from here. No luck. Funny it didn't occur to me to ASK! Doh...
Oh, and I'm sure the artist as Jim said, took liberties. Much like the old car print ad art. They always looked lower and swoopier than real life.

Here's what we ended up with. Also experimented with the drawing but couldn't quite make it work, so just used a photo of the boat for the back side. Maybe playing with fire leaving it unredacted, but oh well

Looks good Keefer, I probably shouldn't worry about covering the details on mine. I guess I'm pretty exposed anywhere on the web.
