Holding Tank

The holding tank (integral to the keel) on my 382 - Watermark - just doesn't cut it for very long when cruising with three daughters. Any thoughts on how to increase capacity? Believe me, we ration the usage.

Philip,
Vetus and others make a flexible bladder (bag) for black water (holding tank). This could be installed in your system by installing another Y valve in conjunction with your current Y valve. The current Y valve lets you pump overboard or to your holding tank, second Y would let you determine which holding tank you're pumping too. Your bladder can be purchased most supply stores, i.e. West Marine, Boats US etc. in various sizes (14, 18, 26 gals.) depending on which compartment you are giving up for bladder placement.
believe the pump out process would be handled much the same way as is currently done, except when first tank is empty you would have to switch the "new" Y valve to evacuate your second tank Cost for a 18 gal bladder, Y valve and hose should be less than $250.
Good luck on your new project.Fred,

I have a different problem I would like to ask about. My holding tank started leaking if if filled too far. It seemed to squirt up as if there was a turn of glass over the top of the tank that then came up the side of the bilge. I have epoxied in somse more glass along the side just this week, so I do not know if I have solved the problem. Does anyone know how the tank is installed? does it actually use the hull sides and keep bottom as tank, or is there some sort of tank glassed into the keel? Any suggestions about what is wrong with my tank? Oh, by the way, I have decided to go with an Electra San , although i have not installed it. fine, unless it is a no discharage zone. I intend to discharge the treated waste into the tank, then void it overboard when i am out of any enclosed harbours.

I'm a new owner. 1978 382. Have the exact same problem with the tank. I've installed a new sensor for the 3/4 full indicator located in the head. I would also be interested in any info about the construction of the holding tank and where others have put bladders to replace the fixed tank. Thanx Stek
