Holding tank pumpout hose behind distribution panel

Hello all,

I have an 82 383. I noticed that the holding tank pumpout hose routes behind the distribution panel to the deck fitting. This seems like a bad idea to me, is this the way it was done at the factory or was the hose rerouted on my boat by a previous owner? If this is the factory design, has anyone done anything behind the dist panel to protect that electrically sensitive area from leaks or hose issues or am I being paranoid?

Thanks for your help!

The hose behind the electric panel area is factory installed. You are right it was poorly thought out. Unfortunately the 12V and 110V systems on our boats were poorly thought out. These systems were mere afterthoughts for the builder. I have always hoped that Ted Brewer had better ideas then the builder did. On Dana, our 1978 382, we moved the 12V panel aft about 2', eliminated the terminal blocks below the chart table and completely did away with the 110V system. We also installed a larger holding tank in the Vbunk and ran a new pump out deck hose on the foredeck, stbd side, near the Vbunk port. The hose in that locker back aft is gone.

It's not under pressure, and it should never have water in it except while under vacuum. You certainly don't want sewage to ever leak. At some point you will probably be glad it is easy to get to when it needs changed, unlike the full hose on the port side.

There are lots of things that could/should have been done better, but this one is very low on my list.

Agree that something just feels wrong about that close juxtaposition of blackwater hose and electrical panel. But upon reflection I agree with Warren that the vertical orientation and lack of pressure is such that it should not be a problem. And ease of access is a pretty big plus when it comes time for hose replacement.

Thank you all for the information and your advice. I like the idea of moving it like you did Jim, I will put that on my project list. For now I won't worry about it but will always have it in mind when I am pumping out.

Thanks again!
