Hi to all you Morgan 38 skippers.

I first joined this site last year before I bought a boat. After looking at about six different manufacturers I settled on a Morgan 38. I flew from Spokane, Wa. to Detroit to look at a boat in Ohio on Lake Erie. When I was down below on that boat, I thought I’m making a big mistake. I thought about returning home and buying a travel trailer. On my way back to Detroit I decided to continue my plans to travel to Newport, Rhode Island to see one more boat. Walking down the dock as I approached this one, I knew it was the one for me, even before going below. Once I did, it didn’t disappoint. I found my boat.
Needless to say it would be an adventure getting it out to the west coast. It was accomplished by sailing Long Island Sound , motoring up the Hudson and Erie Canal and a truck ride the rest of the way to Seattle.
I couldn’t be happier with it. Looking forward to more adventure,

Hi there, Leonard, and welcome to the Morgan 38 family. Wow, that’s quite an adventure just getting the boat from the east coast to Seattle. Also very cool that you had “love at first sight” with your boat. We did with our Zia too.

There is another Morganeer (name is Topher) who has his boat in Bellingham, so kind of in your neighborhood. We will probably be back up to Puget Sound or Desolation Sound next summer - maybe see you around.

Cheers,
-Mark

Hey Leonard!

I live in Seattle, though my Alpinisto is currently up in Bellingham. Where are you currently keeping your boat? Good to have another Morgan 38 in Puget Sound! Once this Covid craziness is over, I would love to get a tour of your boat and would be happy to reciprocate. Always fun to get new ideas from other people's setups.

Hi Mark,
It would be nice to meet up with you this summer. I’m waiting for the US/Canadian border to reopen too. San Juan county is all locked down too, so no visitors in the San Juan Islands. All moorings and marinas are closed, you can stay on anchor but can’t go ashore. I visited Hunter Bay on Lopez Island last week, a nice anchorage.

Hi Toph3r,
When I delivered the boat to Seattle I picked CSR Marine. They did some work for me then and did a great job. I got a sub lease in Shillhole Bay Marina for five months and was lucky to get that. The boats in Anacortes now, what a great town. I tried to get into Bellingham and they told me it was a 10 year wait. How did you get in?

I bought my boat in Bellingham, so I am able to sublet for a year after purchase.

I've heard the trick to getting into Squalicum is to get a slip at Blaine (which is run by the Port of Bellingham), then put in for a transfer to Squalicum. The transfer list is a lot shorter than the normal waitlist.

I am on the waitlist for a slip in Shilshole, and hope to move down there this Fall.

You were lucky it worked out like it did for you. Once you have the boat you need a place to keep it too. I was told to try to get into Blain Harbor when I asked about Squalicum. I got on the list at Cap Sante and Paulsbo. I’m really happy where I am.
I will say Shilshole is a top flight Marina, I’m sure it will be better for you living in Seattle. I live in Spokane so I have a seven hundred mile round trip, but I wanted to be near the San Juan’s. I’d be happy for you see White Wolf sometime. It’s set up to be a cruising boat.
