Could they have the year wrong?

Good day,

I'm just in the middle of purchasing what we think to be a 1978 Morgan 382. I'm currently getting a survey done on it and the surveyor is under the impression it would be a 1981.
Hull# MRY22068M781-382

My understanding is that it would be hull number 068 of 1978... But what is the 1 for ?

Any help is appreciated,
Cheers,
Mike

<div>Jerry, page 8 of the attached "NASBLA HIN comp.pdf" shows how to decode your HIN.
MRY22221M80G

MRY Manufacturer Code for 'Morgan Yacht'
22221 5-digit serial #
Your Hull # is 221
I think 22 indicates Model 382
M designates 'Model year format'
80 Model year (1980)
G Production month (Feb)
A-Aug D-Nov G-Feb J-May
B-Sep E-Dec H-Mar K-Jun
C-Oct F-Jan I-Apr L-Jul

Good luck with your new boat. Where is she located and where do you plan to sail her?
Hey there, thanks! I'll post in the pub shortly here with pictures of her. I'm located in Victoria BC, this is my second sailboat, my previous one was an Alberg 30 and after 3 years of living aboard and cruising plans ahead I sold it and found this beauty of a Morgan 382. Our plan is to do a refit for the next 3 years while sailing around Vancouver Island. Then we'll take off offshore and travel. I'm very excited.

OK The folks on this forum are vastly more helpful and positive than on more general sailing forums.

It was a big reason why we ended up going towards this one as we loved the fact that this forum had alot of information and had a big community

Mike: My son and I circumnavigated Vancouver Island in 2018 in our 382. I had not done that since 1986. Where are you keeping your boat? Royal Vic?

Hi Terry, that's awesome and that's definitely on the to do list before we head offshore. I'm keeping her at westbay marina.
