Companionway hatch

Hi all,
I need to renew the companion way hatch on my 382, hull 178, 1979.
My hatch has teak veneer layed into the hatch top, and the wood is shot. I’m going to remove it, wondering if anyone has done so already, and has pics of project?

Remove this shroud first. ...see pic. Then, remove one of the wooden slide sections that are on either side of the hatch. Port or starboard, doesn’t matter which; you will have to dig out the bungs covering the screws that hold the wooden slide section.
Your sliding hatch can then be lifted out.

Did you redo the top of the hatch itself?
The teak laid into the top of hatch is delaminating, going to remove it, maybe replace w sea deck or similar..

Yes, I stripped off the crappy teak then coated with Kiwi-grip as I will be doing for the entire none-slip areas on Cha-Wa-Kee.
 
I removed the teak. filled the screw holes and put on artificial teak. I don't remember which brand I used. All are easily applied and look good and hold up well.
 
Kiwi-grip is just awful. The nubs wear off quickly and the rest is just skid! Tried it twice.
I ground it all off and replaced it with panelized sections of Seadek 5mm EVA self sticking foam Soft, grippy when wet, great on hot days with bare feet. Try it in the cockpit and you wont miss your cushions.

Are you saying that you used the Seadeck on the bench tops and don't use cushions?

There are 2 scenarios: 1. Parked, 2. Close hauled in a snot. Cushions are below in a snot but the Seadek is way better than bare glass when underway. I'm going on my 4th year with Seadek. It is sheet goods cut to hand drawn patterns on polyester scrim pattern with a razor knife and radii trimmed with a scissors. In 40 years of trying to solve this, it's the best yet.....It will not last forever but compared to sand, walnut shells, polymeric beads, acrylic nubs, I'm in!
