Bootstripe and Torpedo Tube

So, I am having my Morgan painted. It raised this question because of my faulty memory. Does the bootstripe sit below the torpedo tube or run right through it or does the tube bisect the bootstripe. I have seen some photos of 382s with the stripe at about the same level as the tube and I think some show the tube bisecting the line, with half of the tube on white gelcoat and half on blue bootstripe. But at least one picture of a 384 shows the tube fully above the bootstripe. Is this because the 384s wisely moved the torpedo tube higher in the boat? Mine is just barely above the water surface, if I remember correctly. (Boat still out of the water and the old bootstripe is gone.)
 
Terry - this is what it looks like on Zia, but as you pointed out, she is a 384 and might be different.

The big burning question: what color are you painting Adavida's hull?

When we had Dana's hull and bottom painted 10 years ago we had the boot stripe raised 3" because of the weight of all the gear and provisions we carry. The top of our stripe now comes up to the top of the light blue stripe in Mark's photo of Zia. When the work was done they found the builders waterline marks still showing. worked out perfect.

Two results for Dana's paint job that I would like to pass on to you. First is the yard that did the work recommended and used AlexSeal paint. I knew nothing about that company at the time but agreed to it and am very satisfied with the results. The boat still looks very good. Second is that the yard also recommended that I only, ever, touch the paint with two products: Awlwash and Awlcare. These two maintenance products are all we use and the boat still gets admiring looks. If a very tough stain is on the paint, Use a quick wipe with a rag with lacquer thinner till the stain is gone then a wash with the Awlwash. Never touch the paint with a scrubby pad or Soft Scrub!!!

Mark, I chose boring off white. Scared to try anything else. We used Awlcraft paint, which can be repaired and buffed out. I wish I had raised the bootstripe, as Jim suggested.

Jim, I begin to think the 384s had the torpedo tube higher than the 382s. Someday I will measure mine from the cap rail and waterline and ask Mark to do the same.

Jim, thanks for the advice on the cleaning products. I am already aware of having to treat the paint well. I have to repaint my own nonskid and am fearful I might splatter on the new paint, so will be more diligent about masking and plastic sheeting than in the past when I could just use a solvent on the gelcoat.

When the yard guys were about to draw the new raised boot stripe, I asked them how they knew where to put it. They showed me small (less then 1/2") horizontal marks along the hull about 3' apart that delineated where the original line was. They were faint almost scratches in the fiberglass. I never saw them before and they used them to reproduce a perfect waterline, 3" higher then the marks. They had done extensive sanding on the hull so maybe they exposed the marks that were concealed by layers of stuff built up over them. The hull had been painted once before in 1987.Has anyone else ever seen these marks?
