Autopilot pump motor

moltzvt

David Moulton
I have a Smith Industries Autopilot pump and motor, Mfg 12/92, 12volt DC, serial #91456, Code # R1SQ2PNNXRO1FAE. The motor needs new brushes at least, but I would rather replace the motor. This is on my 1982 Morgan 382, I am guessing it was added at some point. Smith Hydraulic industries sold in 2001. Looking for anyone that might have been through this already. When it is running it work great. Thanks

I'd say, short of finding a new motor, find replacement brushes, maybe from an electric motor rebuilder, and polish the commutator and grease or replace the bearings. Nothing else wears aside from those points.

Thats a nice one! Have you considered how you'll be mounting it? I had purchased a auto helm unit the typical kind that raymarine uses. Type 2 but i dont see that im going to have enough room to mount.

This one was mounted in my boat back in the late 80's I am guessing. The mount is on the ceiling of the engine compartment and shaft runs to the quadrant on the rudder. Works very well even in rough seas. My rebuilding is going well, have found new brushes and have it running again. Just need to seat the new brushes.

oooh so once can fit these in there! would you mind shooting some photos of how it is mounted. i am at the beginning stages of aquaring the parts and pieces to do the install. would rather use this auto helm drive gear. what did you use to attatch to the rudder stock?
thanks in advance
