Attaching rub rail to cap rail suggestions

Trying to finish my cap rail replacement project. I have dry fitted the cap and will be laying it down in the next week or so. Shifting my focus to the rub rail. I was planning to use #10 316 SS screws, most of which will be inserted from the bottom into the cap (my new cap is slightly thicker than the original). I also plan a couple of 1 1/2" screws per section straight into the side of the hull under the cap. Any recommendation of a screwing pattern?

I am trying to visualize your plan. Could you take pictures? When you say rub rail, are you referring to the (originally) aluminum strip that screws into the cap rail? Whatever you mean, I would absolutely not put any screws into the side of the hull. It isn't needed. It will leak. And you would need to first remove and then replace the electrical wiring there. Also, tank vent hoses, and bilge hose.

Screws from the bottom are fine, and I would use a glue as well. Not sure what. Maybe a good wood/furniture glue? Use a sealant like UV4000, or maybe even 5200 between the wood and the hull to keep water out so it doesn't rot from the inside out. But no screws. It's a cosmetic piece, really. You don't want to ever actually rub anything with it, because it was a lot of work and expensive to replace. That is what fenders are for.
