382 in Seattle

What is going on with what I guess is some sort of boom vang? With two leads to tracks mounted on the cabin top? I am trying to figure out what that accomplishes.

Funny, I didn't even notice that when looking at the pictures, but I agree that is a strange addition.

OH MY !! Come on you guys! Open your eyes! Put your glasses on! ........................ This boat has a 6' keel !!!!

This would be a great project boat! The interior is spotless. Order a new rudder, chop 18" off the boom, move the traveller to the cabin top. The mast would be 4' shorter than the 383/384, and would allow reefing at a much higher wind speed. If I was just a bit farther along, I would do this in a second!

I am curious why do you say it’s 6ft draft instead of 5 as listed

Looking at the pictures on the stand, maybe? It's only a 6" difference, so I don't think you can judge it in a picture. I'm not sure 6" will make that big of a difference. They rate the same, IIRC.

The 382 IMHO could use *more* sail. I would sure *not* shorten the boom by 18" It already handles big wind very well, but is really sluggish in light wind (which is more common than high wind). Also, Shortening the boom by 18" will significantly change the balance of the boat.
