2022 Annapolis Boat Show meetup?

Last year I made a plan to meet for breakfast with Jim and Bonnie Cleary before hitting the docks. They also invited along a few other friends, and we had a bit of an impromptu Morgan 38 meetup. Come to find out later that there were also a few more Morganeers in attendance that we missed.

This year, perhaps we can plan ahead and make sure we include everyone!

Depending on interest level and schedules we could meet again in the morning, or perhaps later for a painkiller at Pusser's?

So who's going to be there?

Hi there, Keefer - I'm planning on being there. What the heck happened to summer?! The show is only 50 days away!

For everyone's reference, it's October 13-17, 2022.

I'll be going to the show on Thursday, the 13th. It's the "preview" day and costs more ($40), but there are just too many humans for my taste on the other days.

My Dad lives there and I'll be in Annapolis all the other days, too, but usually not at the show.

Cheers,
-Mark

PS: I'm moving this to the main forum, because it gets more traffic. I'm going to combine those forums into 1 when I get a little time, because we don't get a huge amount of traffic, it's not worth having them separate IMHO.

Keefer

This is great. Bonnie and I will be there. When you get a consensus of people and time we'll make our plans. Thanks.

Jim

Sure! I am berthed at Annapolis Landing Marina at the mouth of Back Creek and live in Eastport, just a hop and skip to the show. I have paying guests staying at my home and I'll be running tours on "Non Sea Quitter". Hey--I may need a mate on some of my October trips as everyone else has gone back to school. I can host a gathering at my home on the 17th or on the boat most any time. If you don't tell my neighbors, you may find it convenient (and free) to park on the western side of Eastport and walk to the show. Thanks.

Will somebody be sailing over there? I live full time on my boat, I will be sailing south for winter. I can stop for boat show to meet fellow Morganers. Right now I'm in Newport RI. Another question is where to stay, I prefer anchor, Annapolis will be pack during show. Did anybody was on the boat during show ? Pleas advise.

Your options will be better the further you are from Annapolis but a lot of boats will anchor way out into the river beyond the harbor and there is frequent water taxi. There may be some city moorings available on Spa or back Creek but are first come....contact the harbor master. There are good creeks up the Severn River and if you get here early you may snag a good spot to drop the hook on Back Creek or way up Spa Creek. When do you plan to arrive? You could try Lake Ogleton near the mouth of the Severn, Harness Creek or another creek on the South River on the other side of Annapolis or try a slip on South River as well. I assume you have a dinghy? It depends on your willingness to get here early and anchored early, and how amenable you are to walking or using a bike or transit. Unless weather kicks in, anchor off the main harbor of Spa Creek out in the Severn.

Thanks Paul, Severn River looks good, it should be plenty of space over there. I was in Jabbin Boat Yard two years ago - to expensive for short stay.

We have always been able to find space to anchor in Spa Creek. Every street that ends at the water has a dinghy dock that is free to use. Then it's an easy walk to the show. From the Severn River the walk is longer.

Last year we were looking at the dinghy dock over at the boat show. Quite the overloaded dock. You would need to step onto/over several other dinghies to get to the dock. Seemed like a mess and we'd rather go to one of the other locations like Jim mentioned and then walk a little ways to the boat show.

Keefer and Mark

We have formulated our plans and brought our tickets for the show. We will be coming down Thursday morning, doing the VIP day, Going to Jimmy Cantlers for dinner and staying over and heading back home on Friday. So what ever works for you guys during those times will work for us. Lunch at the show, Crab dinner at Cantler's, Breakfast on Friday, whatever.

You are right Mark. The dinghy dock at the Show is a madhouse. The best one we found was in Spa Creek near St Mary's church.

Jim

Dinner at Cantlers might mean a very, very, very looooong wait and very crowed traffic and parking. As mentioned previously, I am berthed at Annapolis landing marina at the mouth of back creek and could host a party there. My home in eastport is reserved for guests from the 13th-16th. There is a large covered picnic area at ALM. Also there are many good restaurant meetup places on the "other side" of back Creek such as Main and Market, Grumps Cafe, Smokehouse and no Beacon on the water at Chesapeake harbor. There would be much less traffic and fewer crowds at such places outside of town. Could we get a count of potential attendees here please and we can go from there...??

Our schedule just got yanked around and sadly, I don’t think I can make it to Annapolis Boat Show this year. Not certain yet, but my Dad is coming west to Wyoming to visit the rest of our family the week before. I’ll know more in the next week.
Cheers,
–Mark

Hi All - will be at the Annapolis boat show Thursday and Friday. First time, very excited to attend! I know nothing about the show or where to meet, etc, but I'll follow this thread and if it works out, would love to meet some of you!

Anybody interested to sail from NY to Norfolk/Annpolis. If weather permits we can make for the show. I will be leaving NY next week after hurricane.

Grumps is always good and they have been supportive of my chartering business and I go there and send them guests all the time. Hopefully the tent will still be up..best to sit outside--more room and quieter. It can get very busy in there. "Non Sea Quitter" which will be listed for sale any day now is about two miles away. i have a tour booked for the afternoon and a possible trip for the morning but hope to meet there. Thanks!
