1993 M38 CC - Where is the blower ??? :)

hello everyone,

As we turn on the blower we hear the fan making a squeaking noice and the DC meter at the helm drops to 11.5v or less .

The fan works and blow air out and if we turned it on/off couple times we might get lucky and the squeaky noice goes away…voltage stays the same.

how can we get to the blower to inspect it? can’t find it or access to it :(

it blows out from the starboard side by the cockpit (see pic).

Another concern is the Voltage drop (not sure what to expect if consumption is normal). I’m yet to truly test the amp draw next week as I just finished installing the shunt which i’m sure will be handy with this issue.

thanks for any advice:)

Hi Tamir, and welcome to the forum!
We have fewer folks on here with Catalina/Morgan 38s so it might be a few days to get a knowledgeable answer to your questions.
An unknowledgeable (aka ignorant) question: I thought 'blowers' were mainly needed for gasoline engines, is that not true? I think we initially had a switch labelled 'blower' that we got rid of 10 years ago. You have a diesel engine, right?
Cheers,
-Mark

Hi Mark,
It is Diesel and I read about pros and cons regarding that.
I choose to leave it on when the engine is running (especially when we run long days during the ICW passages since it does remove some of heat and ventilated the enclosed engine room).

The blower should have a "dryer tube" running from the blower to the vent (if the blower is in the engine room) or from the engine room to the vent of the blower is in the engine room. Can you find and trace that tube? And, absolutely, I have come to run my blower continuously with the engine. Not absolutely necessary, but good for the engine. Especially in warm weather.

unfortunately these vent pipes (in & out) are going from the bottom of the engine room on the starboard side straight under the shower pan and up into the side wall up to the exit point (shown in the pic) :(....

Then I would guess you exhaust fan is under the cockpit coaming by the vent. can you get in a cockpit locker or quarter berth to access that area?

Have you tried contacting Catalina? there web site indicates that they are still in the yard in Fl where your Morgan was built.

I have a Catalina/Morgan 38 and I still don't know where the blower is located. I haven't been using it much as I have the boat in Rhode Island so it isn't that hot here. Also I don't motor much. But I am interested if you find it to let us know.
