Thanks for the add I’m looking for any info on my 1976 Morgan 38 stern helm and I can’t find anything on it I’ve read as much info as I can find and I’m stumped what model was it called and built by?
I'm not familiar with the term "stern helm", what does that mean? Does it have a tiller and a rudder hanging from the stern?
According to what I have read, the 382 model of Morgan 38s started to be built in 1977. And the earlier "Charlie Morgan" model of Morgan 38s were built from 1969 to 1971. I don't know how accurate those dates are, but yours appears to fall between those dates.
There were over 600 Morgan 38 sailboats built between the late 1960s and the 1990s. There are 5 different models as follows: Charley Morgan 38 - 80 built between 1969 and 1971. Designed by Charley Morgan. Morgan 382 - Ted Brewer design, ~300 built between 1977 and 1981 Morgan 383 - Taller mast...

Do you have any pictures of your boat? Especially in profile would be helpful. Maybe it was an early 382?
Yes it does fall in 1976 I can’t find anything , it’s not an out island , heritage, or West Indies I’m stumped and no one knows ? No visable rudder I was told the keel is 7 ft then rudder is behind prop , the captains cockpit is in the rear of the vessel big steering wheel ? I haven’t took possession of the title yet I’m sure I will get more info with vin. Number .
In those photos (this one and the one you posted under the "Brief History of Morgan 38 Sailboat"), it sure looks like a 382's hull shape, mast, spreaders, etc. My guess is it might be one of the first 382s.
I was told by Catalina yachts it was its own mold but the guy didn’t have time at the moment to explain it I’m waiting for him to respond ! Thanks for input , it seems to be a mystery at the moment !
someone just mislabelled an old photo. This is a 382. The earlier 38s, designed by Charley Morgan, were low slung CCA centerboard design. Well regarded for sailing ability.
I wrote that on paper the owner has been asked several times and he said the title sated it was 1976 Morgan , his daughter has the title and I’m going to get it soon , no money is involved yet until I see the title and get the info of the boat , thanks for any info , the guy at Catalina yachts said it was not a 382 but had its own mold that year but he couldn’t explain because he had a meeting and said he would get back to me about it
I'm just guessing here. But it may have been a boat that the build started in '76 and finished/sold later. Sure looks like a 382 to me too. Morgan did build some very limited production race boats. One Tonners, Half tanners, etc. But this sure isn't one of those.

I’m thinking it might just have been a demo model before production , I’m hoping that it’s an important vessel I’ve already falling for it ! I look forward to getting on it and sailing to the Carolinas soon !
The boat has been bestowed to me from a older friend who can longer sail it and wouldn’t sell for anything , instead he said it should be with someone who deserves it ! And I’m a very proud new owner of and hope it fairs the well ! For many years to come .
The HIN (equiv to a VIN) will tell you if it is a 382. The HIN of a 382 is in the format MRY22xxxMyyz where xxx is the hull number, yy is the year, and z is the month. The HIN is molded into the hull, on the stern, starboard side.
The Morgan 38 that have keel looks like the keels from 69-71 38 ft ? And mines titled 1976 Morgan 38 I will have title next week and should Be able tell the story !
Mry22024m78 d38 mystery’s solved I was told wrong year so I think I understand that it’s a382 built in 1978 and it’s number 24th built ? Please confirm thanks for the info
Hi Folks, I have a 1980 Morgan 382. It is very difficult to access things in the aft lazarette. On my boat there is a plywood bulkhead between the aft lazarette and the storage area under the aft seat. The auto pilot framework is bolted to this plywood. But the plywood does not look like it...
