We had that problem as well when we bought Delia. We chose to repair the holding tank but it was very expensive. I wish I had found this forum before I decided to do that. Good luck with Happy Heart and welcome to Florida!
I seem to recall that John was complaining about cavitation on the 4 blade but I couldn't find the original thread. Sean (the guy who did the re-power) said that at higher rpm it may get noisy but that that was what he called (prop slap) and not cavitation. We did experience that as we cruised...
We went from a 3 bladed 16" featherstream (UK made and needed a yearly haulout to service) to a 17" 4 bladed maxi-ease (A diver can adjust the pitch by changing a screw) and I am very pleased. Before the re-power we were struggling against wind and wave and making only 2 kts at times as we tried...
We just brought her home to Jacksonville from Titusville. At 1800 rpm she was quiet and cruised above 6 kts. At 2100 I want to say we were at or above hull speed which I think is about 7.2. We were having some issues with the stuffing box at high rpm (It needs an adjustment) so we didn't spend...
Sean had to have the mounts custom made and he replaced the shaft and they had to cut it down 2 inches. And yes the featherstream seemed like it was too small. At 1800 rpm we were doing over 6 kts. If we went over 2100 reached hull speed and she started to squat.
Last year as we started our Bahamas cruise the ignition pump failed. It was repaired and we headed south but as we motored against the wind and waves there were times that we were making less than 2 knots. If we turned more than 2100 rpm we started overheating. We also had the oil leaks that are...
Our old Perkins finally gave out. We decided to replace her with a Beta 50 in combination with 17" four bladed maxi prop. So far we have only had her out for a sea trial but it is a huge improvement over the old Perkins and the 16" featherstream prop. We are bringing her home next week and I...
Thank you Jim. I do know how to block her. The previous owner was very adamant about it thankfully. However, I was out of town during one haul out and even though I had been very specific about the blocking.....Rick is right....you got to watch them! I won't do that again.
I dealt with the problem of the holding tank leak as well. My situation was the crack in the seam of the cap, a common problem it seems. I decided to have it repaired by a reputable yard. They had to modify the galley cabinet so part of it could be removed to gain access. They lengthened the the...
I am faced with the same issue as we speak. I have had black fuel ever since I bought Delia four years ago. I am currently in the boatyard and I was going to ask the guys to clean the tank but after reading this thread I don't think I want to pay boatyard labor rates for what Mark described as...
Thanks for the info. I bought it but the end of the cable didn't fit the injector pump. We will see if we can make some modifications to get it to work.
I have to replace the shut off cable on my 1982 383 with a Perkins 4108. The local dealer for Perkins told me that this must be an after market part since the factory part is only 30 cm long. My cable is about 8 feet long. Has anyone had to replace one of these and where did you find one?
I strongly expect that is is adjustable but I am not in town to confirm that right now. I am looking into changing the prop and have one quote already.

The prop that I have is a fully feathering prop so freewheeling should n
The previous owner suggested cruising at about 1800 rpm but she had a cooling issue when I bought her so that may have been his reason. I have since serviced the heat exchanger and changed some hoses and seem to have...
I have owned Delia for about four years now and have been disappointed with her speed while under power. All I have been able to get out of her is a little over 5 kts at 2100 rpm. Hull speed should be around 7.2 I believe. I suspect the previous owner may have under propped her. She has a...
