Mark,
The upper picture is the outlet. It has a “reverse” scoop over it. I suppose it is supposed to help draw water out as the boat is moving.
The lower photo was taken in lazerette about a foot forward of stern and looking forward. The compartment floor was removed (longitudinal frames...
In the lazerette I found what looks like an ink stamped label on the starboard side of the hull that reads:
Morgan Yachts
UO45
This is in about 5/8" tall black, block letters. There is also printed in small text "Sep 15 19XX", where the XX part of the label was painted over by a previous...
First, I'm in middle of a rehab, so please ignore the mess.
While in the lazarette of my M35 I found that the cockpit drain was lead to a below the water through hull with no seacock. The cockpit floor is about 3 - 5" above the water line and the through hull about 3" below the water line, so...
Hello,
I have an M35, which has six 3/8" carriage bolts that pass through the hull to fasten an internal chain plate "bracket" to the hull. The existing bolts were 3" long with about 1 to 1-1/4 in. of thread. Everything I can find in 316 SS in this length is fully threaded.
Does anyone know...
Mark,
While the boat “stops” in reference to the marker as you round it the water/current does not. As a result the boat is actually slipping sideways down stream with the current as you are “side to” the current. By time your sails start to draw the boat has some dowstream momentum and drag...
Sorry, I’m an engineer so I had to jump in. The drag on a body (boat) moving through a liquid is directly related to its speed relative to the water (measured by hull speed sensor, not gps).
Assume a boat is moving at 5 knots hull speed in still water as the basis. If the boat then:

Jeff - thanks for help. Almost implemented it this weekend but got derailed by weather and business travel this weekend. Will let u know how I make out when I can get the time/weather to uncover it again.
Jeff,
She is a Morgan 35.
The partner bolts pass completely thru. I was going to repair then drill out and create epoxy plugs for partner bolts and hatch bolts. The approach of doing this along with re-coring makes sense. Should help in making sure all the old core is gone as well as...
I had a delamination around the mast and cut it open this morning. I have two questions:
I removed all of the wet balsa and now have a 3 in. lip around the mast hole. I need the 3 in. lip to feather in the repair. Any hints on how to slide the balsa in and make sure there are no voids, while...
Well that's a load off my mind. In looking at the shape of crack in my photo I can see it is a filler/fairing material. Pretty easy fix.
Jim - Its a Morgan 35 (http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=1424 )
I removed the name from the transom and found this crack beneath the decal. Not sure if this is just a stress crack and can be gouged/epoxied of if I need to go deeper and add laminate.
The area of the hull behind the backstay has a pretty large backing plate or built up laminations inside...
I just moved into my first Morgan, a 35, and have been following your forum for a few years. Very informative!
Regrettably, work was way too busy and the weather mostly uncooperative all winter, so she is spending the summer in my yard for some restoration work instead of sailing. I'm planning...
