Hi Lantzalot
Congrats on your choice of the 382! I hope you enjoy her. Did you find her here in FL?
I, and two friends, sailed Xanadu, my 384 hull 47, from Julington Creek Marina to her new home port of Sorrento, Maine last Spring. She took good care of us through a variety of conditions on...
I took Xanadu, M384 hull 47 up to my old stomping grounds in Maine last Spring and had a great time all season. The weather was not what I thought ideal in June or July, but August/ September was great. Ended up winterizing and storing Xanadu in Sorrento. If you manage to go "Down East" give me...
Brian,
I've not been able to do this job without taking out the quadrant. It is not that difficult. Also had to remove the rudder position indicator first. The key on the rudder post wants to fall into the bilge, so be aware of that. There might be different packing sizes among boats as my...
Thanks, Jim!
I managed somehow to figure that the halyard trick might work, especially if you leave a relatively slack line that will move readily. It seemed to me that birds don't want any interference with their wings whether it's precipitation, wingspan limits, or that halyard "snake!".
It...
Thanks all for the informative responses! I don't climb masts any more, so will need to take measures against the birds when the stick is pulled. I did the halyards dividing the spreaders on each side and that reduced the droppings a good deal. The wire ties sound good but how long do they last...
Seagulls or herons land on my spreaders, radar dome, and dome rail then dump crap all over the cabin top, deck, cap rails etc. Has anybody solved this problem without shooting the birds?
The Perkins in my boat smoked and put a sheen out even after 15 min. or so. Always a hint of smoke after fully loaded. Smoke increased up in the 3600 RPM area. After studying writings online, here, and talking to a fuel pump mechanic, Roy's Diesel, in Jacksonville, it was apparent that advancing...
Terry, great topic and effort on your part. Thanks for the enlightenment. Every time I take some of the headliner out, I look at any stanchion mount and think it looks a little less than robust. Luckily I don't find any bending or leaks, but your findings and assessments are definitive and...
Yurek,
There are some pump switches with time delays that reduce short cycling, but I wasn't aware of any when I built this in '15. So far it has worked well since then. I have the upper float switch located about 6 inches above the level of the lower one that is about 1" off the bilge floor...
Yurek,
After my boat's lightening hit caused a small leak,, I installed what you mentioned with a relay and switch to eliminate the short cycling of my small pump. See wiring diagram below.
It uses two float switches, a standard on-off relay, and a DPDT selector switch for low water level or...
The ol' 4-108 smokes blue a little on startup and usually has to warm up a while before the cloud becomes a wisp. The compression is good, and she runs well. So I decided to see if I could change out the intake valve stem o-ring seals, but couldn't find a spring compressor that would fit into...
