Alex & Keefer,
I am selling 1979 M382 Hull#115. She is undergoing a refit and still needs work to put the pieces back together. Based on this thread I believe you all are searching for a turn key purchase. If you are willing to entertain the thought of a project boat, then please check out...
Many of you all have reached out to me to inquire about my long silence. Many of you all have offered support and wisdom as I plod through now approaching two years of unexpected upheaval in my personal life. This is an wonderful virtual community that adds significantly to the value of owning...
Tim,
I did a similar job on Pilgrim. See my album on this forum.... http://www.morgan38.org/morgan38/index.php?media/albums/pilgrim-cockpit-locker.35/
I tabbed in the upper and lower portions of the new longitudinal frame. I moved my engine raw water intake and strainer to under the...
I overhauled Pilgrim's chainplate's in 2015. See Pilgrim Rigging Photo Album. Replaced all bolts at this time.
I used 3M UV4000 between the deck and the plate; and butyl tape under the bolt heads.
Michael,
Only use bronze fasteners for installing the gudgeon. Brass does not have the strength or longevity when immersed for this application. Also, The delrin sleeve is a good idea. I had a similar bushing custom machined for my worn M34 rudder shoe. It worked well and held up for over...
Thanks again for your support and compassion. Simply re-engaging with this community builds my resolve and stokes inspiration to continue forward aboard Pilgrim. I sincerely hope to meet you all out on the water in the future.
Hello M38 gang, Pilgrim and I are still in Beaufort. The focus of my "refit" energies has changed from Pilgrim to personal. My marriage of 15 years has dissolved over the past 12 months. Pilgrim, her refit, and future travels were a shared dream. It has been very difficult for me to engage...
Thomas. Good to hear you are happy with 555 on M38x. Took the 555 off our M34 (where it had served us flawlessly for 9 years) and plan on installing it on Pilgrim. Great windlass!
Thank you. Have stalled out a bit over the past 6 months. My life outside of boats has been in a bit of turmoil. The clouds appear to be clearing and am looking forward to continuing my progress in earnest early next year.
Jeff
Jim,
Pilgrim's (1979 M328 Hull#115) torpedo tubes are fastened / sealed to the hull via a heavy layer of white caulk like compound. The interior substance is different that that which is visible on the exterior around the tubes. I believe the substance visible from the exterior is 5200. I...
Thanks for all the info.
Inspecting the old caulk / 5200? around Pilgrim's tubes makes me very suspect they will leak. Seems like now, while all the steering equipment is removed, is the time to overhaul the drains. This is also the logic / approach that still has me on the hard, almost 3...
Jim, What model 38X is Dana? hull number? It looks to me like the primary purpose of the aluminum bracket is to serve as a rudder stop. Clever design. I have not seen a similar system in other 38X images. Have you seen similar systems in other Morgan 38X?
Here is an image of Pilgrim's...
