Can someone please measure the height of the pilot berth from the sleeping surface (without cushion) to the overhead? I'm curious what the MINIMUM height is. My boat is in Italy and I'm in Chicago. Thanks for your help!
I definitely want one if it'll fit my boat, but I'm not comfortable buying one without measuring first. We're neither retired or wealthy, and we're striving to get back to full-time cruising now that covid looks to be wrapping up. So, every penny matters! I'll take some measurements as soon as...
Warren's technique works great! It worked particularly well with my previous boat; it had WICKED prop walk. From a standstill, when shifted into reverse she would spin almost a full 90 degrees before backing at all. Think of it like a skid into the slip!
These look great! I return to my boat in Europe in a few weeks. I'll confirm the size of my packing nut while I'm there and aim for a fall '22 purchase. We come back to the US in October.
Thank you for the measurements, Terry. Here is an example of an anchor ladder on an Italian boat. I actually really like this design, and I considered having one made. However, the Morgan 38 bow and anchor roller are very different, and I don't think this design would work.
I get a kick out of their lack of understanding regarding the metric system. Check out the 26mm distance between ladder rungs - that's just over 1 inch. I'm sure they mean 26 centimetres. Why not use all cm or mm?
This thread is an addendum to my previous post regarding Mediterranean mooring and gangways/passerelle. In addition to a gangway installed on the stern, I'd also like to add a boarding option from the bow for those situations where we can moor bow-to. With our Monitor windvane, mooring bow-to is...
Yeah, I'm not suggesting that your boat is going to magically back like a Volkswagen once you've read the articles. In fact, I'm not even saying that your boat will suddenly start backing to starboard (my boat doesn't go to starboard when reversing, either). What I am saying is that it's...
Warren - It sounds like you're fighting prop wash/walk vs. making it work for you. John Harries has written an excellent series on how to maneuver a single-screw sailboat in reverse, and his guide is far more complete than anything I could type here. It really is possible to make your boat go...
You should check Bacon Sails. They have a few mainsails that will fit the Morgan 38. Keep in mind, the 382 has different rig dimensions than the 383 and 384.

Thank you, Mark. To clarify the measurements: 46.25" is the straight-line measurement between the chainplates immediately ABOVE the teak caprail? And, the 48" is a curved measurement between the chainplates, following the curve of the hull, immediately BELOW the teak/rubrail?
My plan for years was to go bow-to. However, while that would work well in the western Med where lazy lines are the norm, once we make it further east we'll need to rely upon our anchor. Unfortunately, we just don't have an EASY to use and reliable stern anchor setup. We have a danforth anchor...
Thank you, Mark! So, it's 46" between the top inboard surfaces of each chainplate, correct? 47" between the bottom inboard surfaces? Not, centers-to-centers?
Our boat, HuskaBean, is currently on-the-hard in La Linea di Concepcion, Spain (aka, the Gibraltar peninsula) and we're stuck in Chicago. We hoping to FINALLY resume our cruising lifestyle in early May after having been kept away due to COVID. Aside from a 3-week whirlwind trip last November...
