Is this a hull number?

In the lazerette I found what looks like an ink stamped label on the starboard side of the hull that reads:

Morgan Yachts
UO45

This is in about 5/8" tall black, block letters. There is also printed in small text "Sep 15 19XX", where the XX part of the label was painted over by a previous owner.

Is this a morgan hull number?

Hi Stephen - I saw in another post that your’s is a Morgan 35. I’m not sure what the specs are for the M35 hull numbers.

For Morgan 38s the format is something like: MRY38XXXMYYB38X
Our boat (a 1983 384) has a hull number of MRY38006M83B384
She is hull number 006

So I would have guessed the M35 hull number might start with ‘MRY35’. But maybe M35 has a totally different number format.

Im confused then on the hull number. I looked at a boat that was advertised as a 1982 382. But the HIN is MRY33XXXM82G-383. So why does it have 33 after MRY instead of 38? And then 383 at the end, so I guess its actually a 383.

Dave, some of those stamped numbers can be kind of partially legible. If it’s really a Morgan 38, I’m guessing the second digit after the MRY is an 8 that wasn’t stamped well or it is worn.

1982 aligns with when 383s were made. So I’d bet a buck that it’s a 383.

Cheers,
Mark

my Morgan 382 number never says 38 0r 382. It is MRY2216379I. The 22 stands for 382 (don't know why), the 163 is hull number 163 of the 382 model, 79 is the year she was built, and I stands for April. Makes little sense, but that is the numbering convention. August is A, September is B, etc.

The hull number on my boat was MRY33040M82I with last character being the letter i. The boat is a Morgan 383, built in 1982 hull number 40. Terry I am interested that your number does not have an M before the 79. It appears that on my HIN the 33 stands for 383 and on Terry's the 22 stands for 382. Dave I believe you have a 383. Farther evidence would be mid boom sheeting to to cabin top, and a boom that is approximently 13ft instead of approximently 14.5 ft, and a different rudder than the 382.
