Cleaning Exhaust Soot

I had an exhaust connection fail on my way to the Bahamas and filled the engine room and cabin with soot. Any suggestions on cleaning the engine, walls, etc?
 
wow, that has to be a nasty mess. Have you tried Simple Green? My Fuel Polisher guy carries a supply of Simple Green Pro3... he uses it to clean virtually everything and it smells good too.
