Looking for used or new mast 382

I have a 1979 Morgan 382. I’m looking for a new or used mast. I have not had much luck. Any info is much appreciated. Thank you, have a nice day.

I dont have an extra mast. but if you are looking to buy a new one, one of us on the site could probably give you dimensions. Or do you already have all that? I don't know who is building masts now, except Selden, but I expect there are several quality manufacturers in the country. Have you checked site archives. I think there may be something in prior posts about Florida mast builders. Given potential freight charges, I assume you want to get something as close to your boat as you can. And, depending on how many dollars you want to spend, you could also consider an improved mast--for instance, a double spreader rig with tapered upper sections.

Thanks for your response. I have the measurements already but thank you. Yes, the shipping is my biggest concern, so I’d really like to find something in either Florida or possibly even Puerto Rico. I am not against having a new one made but prefer a solid used mast. I have sent several emails to people whom advertise masts but have only heard back from one in Wisconsin. But that will be a nightmare to ship. I haven’t checked the archives yet but am about to look now. Thanks again!

US Spars is in Gainesville. Part of French ZSpars. And I am not sure the cost for shipping would be as much as we might initially think. There are lots of long trucks moving all the time.

I believe that the mast on my morgan was spliced, and believe it was and still maybe a common practice for sailboat mast.Back in 2014 sail magazine had a question an answer about this, and said that Selden for one did it.Some reasons shipping container length, length of anodizing chamber. Splice maybe strongest part of the mast. So shipping may not be that expensive

The mast and boom on my 1978 382 were made by Kenyon. It lists them in the owners manual also though it doesn't give a Kenyon part number.

I tried to identify which Kenyon section the mast is but I don't have the mast available to look at. My notes when I measured for a sail cover were that it was roughly 6" x 9" oval. That appears to be at the larger end of the mast section range that they show on the Rig Rite website for Kenyon spar sections. It could be the cruising mast section 6092 but I am not sure since I didn't measure closely enough..

I would suggest you talk to Rig Rite and see what they can do. It is a pretty big deal to replace all of the fittings and assemble a complete mast and you will need someone like them. If you can find a used one, it would be a lot simpler.

Good luck dealing with Rig Rite. You may wish to look at other spar makers. They have not the best reputation on this site.

I needed to get a new boom and since ours was Kenyon (like our mast), I supposedly needed to go through Rig Rite. At Rig Rite I experienced possibly the worst customer service I’ve ever had in my life. I’m not hard to please and slow to anger.

So I then approached US Spars (Florida, who Terry mentioned). They had outstanding service and got me a super nice boom for less than 1/4 the price that Rig Rite was asking. We are very happy with the new boom.

The new boom wasn’t exactly the same size & shape as the old one, but it works great. I did need to fabricate a new gooseneck to handle the connection to the mast, but that wasn’t difficult. I would see if any of their spar shapes/sizes would work for you. Also, they have ‘blemished’ spars that have super minor scratches, etc. That can be had for quite cheap.

I’d for sure recommend US Spars. Rig Rite: not so much, unless its a very cold day in hell. I’d rather whittle a new mast with my leatherman.

I've had the same experience with Rig-rite too. Although not for spars but some parts. Non existant service. Never returned calls, and rudeness when finally got through to a receptionist. I couldn't purchase anything, though I tried.
