Throttle cable

Hi
On board Dana, I have the original Orion steering pedestal and system. Yesterday I needed to change the engine throttle cable. Other then having to disassemble just about everything to get to the clamp that holds the upper end of the cable, it was a fairly reasonable job to complete. That same afternoon I joined my oldest Son to help him change the same cable on his Columbia 35. His is an Edson pedestal of a late 1970's vintage. We were able to remove the old cable until we reached that upper clamp. At that point we were stumped. Does anyone know how to release the clamp to free the cable?? Any help would be great.

I don't have any idea, but having a photo might give someone a clue. Can you stick a phone/camera in there with auto flash and auto focus? I've done that in places where I can't see... even to just record serial numbers on the back of equipment I couldn't move.

That's a great idea. Working on the pedestal the other day in the bright sunshine, I had to drape a towel over my head just to see down into the pedestal with a flashlight. A photo would let me have something in my hand to discuss the problem with Edson when I call them. Thanks.

Have you tried calling Edson tech support? They were very helpful to me when I was dealing with that issue.

I spoke to Edson support today. The guy was very good. He told me what we need to do and emailed an 8 page instruction sheet with all the details. My Son and I will attempt to do the job on Wednesday evening. Let you know if it's simple or not.

Just got home after installing a new throttle cable on my Son's Edson pedestal. Other then having to disassemble half of the back end of the boat, it wasn't a bad job. Who designed the cable clamp that's too big to be removed from the base? I hope the newer Edson assemblies are better thought out. I also hope my Orion system lasts a while longer. Needless to say the job took 3 times longer then it should have.
