Greetings - well, thus far I've been paying the site expenses for Morgan38.org out of my pocket, but now I could use a little help.

My wife has (wisely) placed me on a 'hard' spending freeze after this year's enthusiastic refit expenses. And we still really need a new Windlass. ;)

So ... if you have found this site useful, please consider a donation to help keep it running. My expenses are roughly $400-$500 per year. For server space, software licensing, backups, etc.

Your kind donation can be sent via PayPal to mark <insert an at sign here> straydogma.net

The email address is a little obscured to make it more difficult for computers to harvest it.

Thanks Much for your support!! I think this forum rocks, and I really appreciate everyone's contributions of content.

Thanks!
Should the check be addressed to "Morgan User Group" or you?
And thank you for all your work...I know it's a lot. Incredible generous of you to do this upkeep and all the rest that I know goes with websites.

Thank you, thank you, thank you ...

So far, the following Morganeers have donated: Richard D, Ken K, Rolf P, Robert M, Thomas M, Alan S

I really appreciate your help!

Someone asked about user statistics - we have 1,067 "registered" users, although many haven't been logged in for years. We have 232 users who have logged in so far in 2017. Our active user size is probably more like 100, that's the number who have logged in in the last month.

Check is on it's way Mark

Mark , You are a gem, you give so much to all of us. You should not have to give money from your pocket to keep this group alive. There should be some method of you getting the money first on the front end of the year . Like a program of monthly or quarterly ! My check is on its way !

Mark
We've been out cruising and have just checked the board. As they say "the check is in the mail!" Thanks.

Jim

Thanks John - please make them out to 'Mark Pearson'.
Done...sent it Saturday. Thx again for maintaining this site. I hope you have a couple of backup trainees with all the necessary info ...for the future if you haven't already.
Let us know Mark when you receive it.

Sent via PayPal. I sent as much as I could afford.... full-time cruising is hard on the bank accounts! :) Please confirm when you've received. Thanks!

A second batch of donations has arrived.
Our supporters are:

Stephen R, Jerzy B, Lee N, Terry T, Ken F, Bill H, Brian Z, Jim C, John H

By the way, I'm just using last initials for privacy reasons.

Thank you all very much! Long live this forum and our lovely boats!

Thanks Mark, as Jim said, checks in the mail, a while back. Have you any news about Larry, your ancestor?
Also it would be good if you made this an annual dues type thing, and if you get a positive balance, so be it.

Dick

Thanks to the third batch of contributors:
Christopher A, John G, Dick K, Jose S, Jason W

I really appreciate the help keeping our site up & going!
Thanks! Long Live our Morgan 38s!

Hi Mark 10-19-17
Out of curiosity, without saying who gave what, what’s the total you have received? Is it enough to cover hosting, domain, etc?

Thanks John H (schlepper) for the donation!

To the other John H (wild382) ;) I've gotten a total of $520, which is enough to cover my 'hard' costs for the site, software, storage, etc. Thanks to everyone!

We had a most awesome summer of sailing our Zia up north, and now doing some winter repair/refit work. I'll also be doing some upgrade work on the site to keep it current with the latest version of software, database, etc.

Gee..,for all your work, I would have thought it would be much more. I encourage others who benefit from this site to kick in a bit more. Since I do similar work I can tell you all...this is a very small amount for what it takes to run a website.

If I could suggest that maybe if there is a way to set a notification to all Members at the same time every year or quarter or whatever interval of time that matches the funding need and put that up on the board with a recommended minimum amount as I wasn't sure what the proper amount to donate would be... then if there are those who are not able to do the minimum, at least those that can will have some guidance for what the need is; I love the site and appreciate the different perspectives from all the various members and feel like I 'know' them even though I've only met 2 of the others on the site!!

Agreed...once a year just before hosting is billed. Normally it is billed annually. But can be purchased in larger time blocks to save money. We don’t want to scare anybody off who is just visiting or make anyone feel guilty for not contributing. With as many members as we have (some of us, me included, visit more often during off season) I’ve learned so much valuable knowledge from the members of this forum that, in my opinion, it’s part of the value of the Morgan 38 series...a lot of great people...:)

Before becoming a sailor, I had owned 2 inboard Shamrock powerboats. The Shamrock site for previous owners was similar to this one and invaluable in keep those boats maintained and updated. Of course, those boats were so minimal to maintain compared to a 35 year old Morgan... it's a labor of love. And I am on my third Shamrock now, but it's a small 20' Center Console for when I need a speed fix... ;-)
