Welcome to this website/forum for people interested in the Morgan 38 Sailboat. Many of our members are 'owners' of Morgan 38s, but you don't need to be an owner to Register/Join.
There had been a previous attempt at repairing this that was attempted without getting access that was failing. They'd increased bolt size to 5/16” and threaded the holes without any backing. They might have tried to glue the plate to the bulwarks too, some gelcoat had stuck to the stanchion base plate. Tiny hands or a larger access hole would have made getting the washers & nuts on easier. Also angling toward the outside of the boat, maybe even getting a little of the back side of the cabinet would have helped.
